Edited by: Ben Derindar on 14/03/2009 03:02:44 I was finally able to get back into the game last night after 3 days of trying. Here are my impressions so far.
Premium models: pleasantly surprised, compared to how I remember them when Trinity was first introduced. I always liked the new stations, but many of the ships seem to look a lot better now than what I recall. Still don't like most T1 Amarr ships though, needs more golden and less sandy. Backdrops and planets look almost cartoony now as well, they badly need a revamp. Performance is OK, I'm getting around 60FPS without HDR or Bloom which is less than what I was getting under Classic, but bearable for the most part.
Fittings screen: will take some getting used to, but at least there is some logic to it with highs being high up and lows being low down etc. The coloured bars for resistances look a little out of place with their plainness, perhaps some bevelling or something to touch them up a bit.
Skill queue: wholly unnecessary imo, and I'm disappointed that CCP backed down on their original promise that it would never happen. Nevertheless, I gave it a try, and it seems it's not clever enough to be able to add a skill that I can't currently train, but will be able to train once others ahead of the queue will finish (for example in my case, Survey 5 then Archaeology 1 on my alt). It might benefit me on the odd occasion where I forget to log in once every 6 months or so, but otherwise... meh.
Travel effects: like many others, I can't say I'm a fan of the new warp tunnel effects at all. I really miss the camera shake too; what's the point of having that option in the settings now? As for the new "bubble" type jumping effect, I can't stand it when zoomed up close on my own ship, but when watching a busy gate from a distance it does look cool being able to tell which ships are actually triggering the gate before they disappear.
Sounds: need options to control volume of various effects, the station noise is a bit loud for my tastes, for example. Don't really like the new warping/jumping effects at all, why did they even need to be changed? Still can't stand the voice of Aura and never will; she sounds like Deanna Troi on tranquilisers. Is it possible to disable her entirely, without killing everything else?
Wormhole space: doesn't interest me as much as what it might have done once upon a time, but that's probably just me showing my age with the game. I had my fill of exploration in 2004 before you needed probes to do it all for you.
Overall, thumbs in the middle. Probably not enough to prevent my second account expiring in a few weeks. *shrug*
